Not as much time spent in the kitchen as I had hoped.  So much time has been spent trying to finish up the living room before the holidays.  There was however an amazing oatmeal pie...and a leftover head of califlower that was turned into the yummiest escallopped cauliflower!  And on Friday evenings we try to make dinner light but special...this week it was Cider Steamed Mussells!  Personally I have never tried mussels but I LOVED them!

Daybook....October 28, 2014....

                                                              For Today
                                                         October 28, 2014

Outside my window......Cloudy and grey, cool but with temps to be rising today before it gets cold onced again.

I am thinking.....How quickly this little cottage can go from clean to messy during a project...or is it when Husband is home?!

I am thankful.....For vacation days to allow us to just be home to spend time together...and yes get said projects finished also.

I am wearing....Jean skirt, and tee with rain boots.  Ready for a mountain hike with Husband on our property this am.

I am creating....The last of the living room/kitchen wall area.  So glad to be done this project.  Next up....the living room floor!!

I am going....On a hike on our property with Husband this early am then home to finish some laundry.

I am wondering......About the phenomenon of the Elsa character these days.  I loved the movie but am not liking the obsession I am seeing.

I am reading....Nothing at the moment...no time really...sad!

I am hoping/praying.....Our grandchildren find themselves full of the compassion their mothers learned and never had to be taught!

I am learning.....That karma has a real sense of humor.

Around the house.....Arranging and re-arranging so very many times as we finish a project and things just always seem to look better in "another" place.

In the kitchen....Breakfasts with my love as he has had off four days and we have spent that time here at home.

I am pondering....Recent conversation with our 6 year old granddaughter....oh how sweet it is!

One of my favorite things.....Coffee with a chilly sunshine on the patio furniture.

A few plans for this week.....A completed project, more raised beds to be finished, more woods to be cleared for the garden, a woodsy picnic here with Tess and then dessert and shopping in OUR town to show her around, and a lunch date on Saturday with Deb.  And now that we know when church starts at a local church most definately THAT.

A peek into one of my days this past week.....

Been quite a bush week here at the Farmstead.  Heat became the top priority and left very little time for the kitchen.  Breakfasts have been plenty of apples and homemade dip...YUM!  Along with the usual yogurt/granola and eggs/avocados.  Found myself with some leftover chicken...chopped up added some homemade aioli and grapes wrapped it in a sushi wrap and oh my was it good.  Still using the raw apple cider from the local mill but almost out which means another trip there!  Saturdays are always a soup day here.  I had some yummy and very large sweet potatoes and some kale so threw together a yummy autumn soup.  I had no recipe but it turned out to be the BEST...Larry exclaims always about how he hates sweet potatoes...he LOVED this soup.  Will try to write up the recipe of sorts here.
Be well,
Lisa

Bone broth of choice I used chicken
Chop up the kale and cook in the broth till tender.
Cut sweet potatoes into bite sized chunks drizzle with olive oil and sea salt and roast till tender.
Blended the sweet potatoes with some broth with immersion blender till desired creaminess.
Added to the bone broth in the pot with the Kale.
Added a little drizzle of truffle oil.
Cooked up some sausage and added that as well.
Added a pint of whole heavy cream and YUM.

The Daybook....

                                                        For Today
                                                    October 21, 2014

Outside my window....Sitting next to an open window listening to the birds chirping their morning song and watching the slight breeze blowing the leaves around.  Gorgeous blue sky.

I am thinking.....About my lunch date last week with Tess.  I had forgotten how much I missed her with the move until that very moment I walked into the coffee shop and was embraced in love!

I am thankful......For so many things this morning, the woods that gives us the heat here at the cottage, Children that come bearing yummy treats and hands to help, Husband that works so hard all day to come home to just be present together in whatever we do, Food that is healthy, sustainable and organic that is so abundantly available here, And a home that is totally in the making but every step is one that we cherish!

I am wearing.....Grey and black print yoga pants, garden boots, and a goat milk tee from the conference a few weeks ago....hair in a messy bun and ready to tackle more of the garden in the making today.

I am creating....The garden!  Watched the back to eden film again yesterday and am prepared to tackle the area of the woods we are cutting down and turning into what we pray will sustain our family.

I am going.....To be planning and plotting the garden space with plenty of fruits, berries, veg, ducks, swings and just lots and lots of charm and wit!  Look out pinterest!!

I am wondering.....How christmas will be this year in the new home.  Praying to complete the living room in its entirety to have the family HERE this year!

I am hoping.....To get wood cut through the week to have the weekend to work on another project and maybe...just maybe...a bike ride with my love!

I am learning....To be slower.  Slower in general.  Wanting to be more aware of my surroundings at all times and take things in slower and savor it all.

Around the house....3 new laying chooks to arrive on Friday, plenty of laundry to dry by the woodstove, mulching the many trees out of the garden woods.

In the kitchen....The yummiest fall soup I have ever made.  Recipe and pic on Thursday.  Maybe some bread this week, and the lemons...yes the lemons....made the most amazing lemon blueberry layer cake from the lemons we grew.

I am pondering.....A coffee date this week and where the conversation will go and where it "should" go. lol.  Always interesting with her!

A favorite quote for today...."Outside the will of God there is nothing I want.  And inside the will of God there is nothing I fear" ~AW Tozer

One of my favorite things....The fact that my adult children still text me when they have arrived someplace knowing that my mommas worrying heart is here waiting!  Oh they forget often but when the remember it overflows  my heart!

A few plans for this week.....Lunch date with my Love in the middle of the week for no reason at all!  Long overdue hair appt on Friday, errands, shopping, visit to Rhodas to enjoy her sweet presence and bring home new chooks, and a lunch date with Cathy!

A peek into one of my days this past week......

It seems anytime Tess and I meet for coffee its always at Big Oak.  Love it there but thinking its time we branch out of our own little box!  It is a lovely place though!!

Be well,
Lisa

Homestead Barn Hop....

So much seems to get done in just two days around here.  Hoping to be able to relax a bit more through the week but with so many little things left undone im not quite sure we will see that happening.  We completed the woodstove chimney with the help of our son in laws on Sunday.  Just in time for our first frost.  The first fire in the stove brought happy tears to my eyes.  How I have missed the wood smoke and heat!  The stove was set in the tiled area but the tiles are still needing grouted.  I have about a third of the area completed.  That is more than I bargained for indeed!  Also over the weekend Larry set out to build the dividing wall/bookshelves.  That man is amazing!!  Completed in just one day!  And I am truely in love with it.  The bookshelves are deep and the backside in the kitchen is a great place to hang the favored cast iron pieces that are used daily.   Also made the photo holder to hide the electric panel.  And ended the weekend with a visit from our oldest and her family and some homemade chocolate chip cookies made by Firefly and her momma. Enjoy!

Joining Heather at Beauty that moves with the weekly blog hop.

This past week was the monthly trip to PA for some organic produce, local grass fed meats, wild for salmon fish and good company.  As the nights are getting dark earlier and larry seems to be arriving for dinner when the sun is down our comfort foods change slightly.  The dill and feta salmon patties we a real treat with a sunny side up egg in the mornings.  Lemons are ripening from our lemon tree and I have plans of turning them into a delicious dessert for the weekend.  Plenty of fresh organic roasted veg has made a hit only problem im thinking I didnt order enough.  Also treated myself to some local fresh and creamy yogurt from the farm while away added some granola and oh my!  Scored some close to date organic heavy cream....1.00!  Bought nearly 20 pints.  Made some fresh gingerbread and whipped cream for dessert this past weekend.  Sunday found me giving the Chemex a go!  I did love it but was hesitant as I am totally addicted to the LeCreuset French press!  The Chemex will find its way to the table on Sunday mornings however.

Be well,
