Monday.....June 30, 2014.....

H-O-T!!!  Blasted hot out!  Took all three dogs for their individual walks today and even they were happy to get home and back into the ac.  I even dislike cooking on hot days.  A typical Monday here.  Laundry, house cleaning and knitting with a good movie.  Finished a knitting project and ready to start another tomorrow.  The mailman made my day though.  An amazon order!  A new essential oil carrying case and the Nourishing Traditions Book!  AMAZING book!  Wont be putting it to much use until we get moved but there is so much to read, look and contemplate!  Everything is watered for the day and we are quickly winding down for the evening.  Treated us to some Talenti Gelato this evening.  Raspberry Chocolate to share with my love!

Sunday....June 29, 2014....

It was a hot humid and tiring day.  We finished the sides of the barn completely.  Stained the front and put wire in the door window.  Larry and James also made the two barn doors for the loafing area of the barn.  I didnt get that stained yet so only took a pic of the front.  It seemed like the work took an extra amount of time and effort.  Hoping things go faster next week.  Also, we planted the Rhubarb in the bramble patch.  Home showered and just plain done for the evening.

Saturday.....June 28, 2012....

We did it!!!  Milestone number two down.  There are four major milestones in this move.  Basically the first four things that need to be done before we can actually move into the cottage.  And as it would be they are all actually the ones that require the largest amount of cash out of our pockets at any one time.  We bought the 14x40 wooden structure from Esh's Buildings.  Picked the colors and placed the doors and windows.  This building will essentially be four walls, roof, floor, windows and doors.  The entire rest is up to us one step at a time.  This space will in the end be the living room and kitchen.  All an open floor plan.  The first thing to do onced the building arrives will be to have the electric company bring in the electric, our electrician wire up the entire building and bring the elec  from the pole to the house.  Also we will have to immediately put on an addition for the bathroom and utility room off the back of the building.  Onced all of this is finished we will move into the big open room, the side of the kitchen.  Yes we will be living in an unfinished space while finishing the rest.  It will be difficult at times and frustrating im sure.  But we are ready for the next phase.  Living here already feels like we are away from home.  But were together and thats all that really matters.  Speaking of being together.  Last night Larry and I went out to celebrate the event!  First stop...a civil war era barn turned into a micro brewery.  Beer was fabalous...music was so good.  She was a young band and full of energy.  They had pit bbq and it was amazing with the beer.  Headed then downtown Gettysburg to walk in the early evening and enjoy being outside with lots of people.   Stopped at the Dobbin House for their famous Rum Bellies drink and hot gingerbread with a lemon sauce.  The atmosphere in the tavern in the basement is absolute amazing!  Always a favorite.  On our way back to the truck Larry treated me to one  last thing...A CARRIAGE RIDE AT NIGHT!!!  One I will never forget.  Well tomorrows a busy day at the land.  Hoping to get the barn stained and windows screened in.

Lisa

Director’s chair + vintage suitcase = nightstand

Went to a few yardsales today.  Wish I had taken a pic of the amazing find.  But the one above stolen from pinterest will have to suffice.  The one I bought is two drawers and a little taller.  Its going to be amazing as a entertainment stand.  Hit up the thrift store as well.  Bought the cutest summer dress and some amazing capris in a tiny blue and white pin stripe.  I absolutely CANNOT wait to unpack all of the new things for the new home.  Our storage building is overflowing with goodies.  Been a relaxing evening home with Larry.  Settling in with a good movie on the sofa!

Same book as last week.  Struggling to get through it.  It just hasnt grabbed my attention like I thought it would.  Moved on however in knitting projects.  The tote has been fnished and waiting to be felted.  Im going to need the help of my sister for that.  Tried it here but it just wont felt up like I would like.  Started the new knitting project today though.  Its the Rikke Hat from ravelry. In a alpaca wool.  The hat itself is a bit slouchy but not too much.  This seems to be an easy knit so wont take long.  Im thinking a pair of mittens to match would be nice.  And maybe a brown scarf.

Tuesday...June 24. 2014....

Home....hot tired and just a little grumpy both of us.  Cleared another section of the goat yard this evening, painted the barn door red...CANNOT wait until we have the furring strips on and the barn painted grey...then it will look like a barn...to me anyways.  Planted a raised bed of mountain mint at the barn as well as a fig tree and the horseradish in the upper meadow where we plan to fence in a bramble patch.  Its been a very long and hot day.  Showered and ready to call it a day here.

http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/2014/06/june-july-daybook-editions.html

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...Bright blue skies and a slight breeze.

I am thinking...Im not into astrology however a friend is and shared with me a video about it..thinking how fitting that a Sagitarius is a wanderlust...

I am thankful...For a week of rest ahead.

In the kitchen...Zuccini and lots of it!  With sauteed organic mushrooms..YUM!

I am wearing...Black flip flops, new grey silky carpi leggings, pink workout top, and a cardigan, hair in a messy bun!

I am creating...Still creating the knitted/felted tote.  Done soon!

I am going...To be needing more wool for the next project.

I am wondering...The move in date of the cottage!

I am reading...Still reading "Good Enough to Eat"...not as good as I had hoped but determined to finish it.

I am hoping...The fourth of July is nice weather.

I am looking forward to...Fall...I know it seemed like yesterday I was ready for summer.  Loving summer but knowing fall has a move in store makes me so anxious.

I am learning....ALWAYS learning patience!

Around the house...Laundry, dog walks, evening walks with Larry, reading and knitting.

A favorite quote for today..."Don't be affraid to start over, its a new chance to rebuild what you want."

One of my favorite things...The way the trees show their under colors hours before a storm comes our way.

A few plans for the rest of the week:.....Mid week trip to the property, a trip to the seamstress, possibly a trip to the livestock auction, errands and dinner on Saturday, and Sunday finishing the goat barn at the property

A peek into my day..

I look at this picture with a lump in my throat.  I am by far the luckiest woman in the entire world!!

Sunday....June 22, 2014....

An amazing weekend behind us with great memories having been made.  This morning we headed to Cowans Gap for a cookout with some dear friends.  Walks, good conversations and laughs to be had.  Headed home but decided first to take a trip to the local Hausers Winery.  Enjoyed some ice cold hard cider and the views for an hour or two before heading home to relax.

Saturday....June 21, 2014....

I cant remember a better summer solstice!  We managed to get the entire goat barn under roof!  With the help of two amazing son in laws of course!  Some sides to finish, painting and a door and it will be ready for the girls when we get moved!  Headed back up later in the week to work on clearing some more of the goat yard.  After a day of working a quick shower at James and Katies then to celebrate summer with the entire family at Cassie and Karls...a cookout and smores!  We are truely blessed in so very many ways.  The goat barn at this point has us at a total of $129.00.  We have been so fortunate to have been gifted so many of the materials and repurposed nearly all of it.

Friday....June 20, 2014....

It has been an absolutely gorgeous day outside today.  Took each of the three dogs on their own walks just to enjoy the weather.  Ran some errands and visited a friend.  Larry came home to get me and we took a trip to town together.  That doesnt happen enough!  I love shopping with him.  Major score at lowes!  The materials for the goat barn ran us a total of $71.00 and then we found 2 peach trees, 2 plum trees, and 2 pear trees all six for only $32.00.  I love a good bargain for the farmstead!  We will leave these trees here and take care of them until the cottage is delivered and we are certain of where we want the small orchard.  Ready to settle in with some netflix and knitting for the evening.  A very busy weekend ahead!

Lisa

Yarn Along....

http://www.gsheller.com/2014/06/yarn-along-182.html

Decided to give this a try onced again.  For some reason it seems summer draws me to knitting  more so even than winter.  Maybe im just dreaming of the cold wintry days and in my own way preparing for it with some nice new woolens!  Anyhow, I just started a new project this week.  A knitted/felted tote.  Its a knit only stitch so is moving along very nicely.  As for reading...I have just started the book "A good place to eat".  Seems good so far.  As always with books of this nature the beginning is mostly drama and the fun is yet to come.  Will stay with it to the end!

Tuesday...June 17, 2014....

Stayed home again all day.  It feels so good to be home and accomplish things here.  Took each of the dogs for a walk by themselves.  That was a first and im definately going to try to do it daily as they were so good.  Worked on the knitting project hoping to get to the handle by next Monday.  Loaded up the truck and headed to Larrys work.  This was our first mid-week trip to the land.  Two major lessons today...make a list so as to not forget so many things we need...second...if a log is wet, rotted and falling apart...LEAVE IT ALONE!  Hit a bees nest of some kind.  Three stings!  Larry added more supports to the barn for the roof to go on Saturday.  But first he took the time to cut and clear the saplings and smaller trees in the far corner of the property line for me.  This is where we will start the fencing for the goats.  Here are the before and after pics from tonight.  Lots more to clear but it really looks nice onced its done.  Home showered and ready to drop into bed.
Be well,
Lisa

Welcome to...

http://www.thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...Was a very sunny day now turned to grey stormy skies.

I am thinking...How good it feels to be rooted and planted at home this week.

I am thankful...A supportive family willing to help in this dream.

In the kitchen...Chocolate peppermint smoothies!  Along with other fruits and greens.

I am wearing...Grey linen capris, green flowy tank top and flip flops.

I am creating...A knitted and felted travel basket.

I am going...To enjoy a week of rainy weather knitting and felting!

I am wondering...If the weather will clear for saturday to build the barn roof.

I am reading...Good enough to eat.

I am hoping...That Sukey the cat takes care of her kittens this time around.

I am looking forward to...Knitting group this evening and the beginnings of a new project.

I am learning....Felting.  And loving it so far.

Around the house...Laundry from the weekend, fresh produce for meals, cordials by the gallon being started.

A favorite quote for today..."What if I fall?  Oh my darling what if you FLY?"

One of my favorite things...Afternoon walks that make you sweat terribly!

A few plans for the rest of the week:....Knitting group, midweek trip to the property, Evening out with a friend, Errands friday and lunch with Rhoda, and the barn raising on Saturday followed by a cookout with the family, and yet another cookout at the lake with friends.  The week may be slow but the weekend is NOT!  Thinking this wont change until fall.

Sunday....June 15, 2014....

Oh I am sore soooo sore today!  We headed out to the property and met James and Katie there to put the sides on the goat barn.  As of today we are at a total of 46 dollars total for the barn.  Things will increase financially now with some of the big things ahead of us im sure.  Its getting harder to leave the property and come back here.  We decided today though that we would start making a mid week trip.  We wont be able to actually do much.  Maybe plant a few things in the bramble patch and cut some trees in the goat pasture but it will be nice to just get there.  Another favorite is having a meal there onced a week.  Its a little work planning and prepping then packing everything but its so worth it.  The barn is now closed in with FREE plywood so next week we will have both boys there to help and put it under roof.  Home and showered we decided to head to the mountain for our weekly hike to the falls with the little man.  A very slow and steady week ahead and to be honest im quite looking forward to it!

Lisa
