Daybook....September 30, 2014...

http://www.thesimplewoman.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-simple-womans-daybook-september_29.html

Outside my window.......A bright sunshine sparkling off of the changing trees on our little valley in the mountains.  Birds singing loudly.  Rain to come.

I am thinking......How blessed we are to see the changes in the seasons.

I am thankful......For the gifts of friendships.

I am wearing....Home clothes as I have no place to be.  Grey linen capris, silky grey/blue flower print tank, and a comfy sweater.

I am creating......Next creation around here will be the chook coop!

I am going.....To be taking many walks this day before the rain comes to enjoy the scenery and refresh my mind.

I am wondering.....About what the next adventure will be....yes we've only just begun this one.  But what is a wonder if not thinking of the future?

I am reading......Nothing today but choosing a new book from the bookshelf tomorrow.

I am hoping.....For beautiful cool weekend weather!

I am learning......To use power tools to help my husband.

Around the house....Wild turkeys a plenty and right up to the front door.  Laundry, baking and still more treasure finding in the many boxes from storage.

In the kitchen.....Hearty meals for cooler days.

I am pondering......A relationship with the dearest friend I have ever been blessed with and how I miss her after this move.  Must do something and soon!

A favorite quote for the day....."When you stop fighting things and just live, breathe and try your best to treat people right, life just flows.  Its that simple"  ~Dau Voire

One of my favorite things....Falling asleep to the sweet soft coooo of an owl.

A few plans for this week......Shopping trip with my girls, (Firefly snuggles included), A coffee date with a friend, WAP gathering with an awesome speaker and bookwriter  Sarah Ballanantyne. And a trip to D.C. with the entire family to paruse the smithsonians and take in some memorials before an amazing dinner.

A peek into one of my days this past weekend......

Headed out for the day with my love and the curling iron died!!  So up goes the hair out comes the glasses and grab a scarf....whipped up and ready to go!!  We did have an awesome weekend however most of it "was" spent finishing up that bathroom of which I am very grateful!

Be well,
Lisa

A three day weekend....

barnhopimage

http://www.theprairiehomestead.com/2014/09/homestead-barn-hop-178.html

Its been a terribly busy and messy three day weekend here on the farmstead.  Larry took off on Friday so that we could actually "finish" a project.  Seems there are SO many started and not a one finished.  So we tackled the bathroom.  As we have a composting toilet we wanted to make it feel like an outhouse only inhouse.  Came out with more of a sauna feel but we absolutely LOVE it.  We wanted to use the space above the bathroom for storage and finished it sort of as well.  After laying the wood on the top we decided that we would eventually close the space above it in completely with a door for access.  We also wanted to make this project as inexpensive as possible.  The wood for the walls and ceiling inside the bathroom are from skids/palletts.  Floor tiles less than $20.00 from lowes.  Rug $3.99, Toilet used $200.00, Shower stall complete with glass doors a freebie, Outlets and switches about $4.00, Bucket to hold dry compost $2.00, Cabinet from lowes a damage for less than $20.00, insulation and 2x4s maybe $40.00 mirror also a freebie, trash can $2.00 and the light from lowes for a whopping $8.00 a bi-fold door from lowes for $32.00, All of the black hardware also a freebie, the sink a find along the road, and fresh linens for maybe $15.00.  All and all im thinking maybe a grand total of....$430.00.  While Larry was hard at work here I took the time to put together the beginnings of the homeopathic cabinet.  This cabinet was a find along the road and it has been quite the piece!  I cannot understand anyone throwing such a thing out.  I have been collecting tincure and dry herb and oil bottles at Hobby Lobby every other week as they were half off for a year now and am finally ready to put them to use.  This is just a beginning there are so much more to put together.  Add to this the essential oils and we are ready for winter!
Be well,
Lisa

This week in my kitchen...

Blog hop banner
http://www.beautythatmoves.typepad.com/

I am over the moon excited to be able to "finally" take part in this blog hop.  We have finally somewhat settled into the cottage here on our little piece of WV heaven and cooking has onced again resumed.  Hoping to have more to show next week and trying to find the camera to have a better quality photo than the phone.

This is our temporary kitchen here in this tiny cottage.  We have moved in and are finishing the space while we live here so no drywall yet but I am so very very happy with it.  Behind the curtain is our temporary bedroom...this space will be more of the kitchen where we keep the cookstove onced we build the first addition.

Indie our american alpine goat is away being bred and I am so very anxious to onced again begin milking her.  But until then we are so very thankful for the local raw milk and the cream we separate from it.

Parmesan roasted mushrooms with a squeeze of lemon and some mortared home grown herbs were very satisfying one of our first nights "home".

Before moving I purchased this beauty of a coffee pot as well as a Chemex...This however has become my absolute favorite!

Off to enjoy a cool and rainy day.
Be well,
Lisa

Monday.....September 15, 2014...

A few updates at the Farmstead....We officially moved in on Friday.  We nearly froze to death no kidding the first night.  Didnt take long until Larry finished the entire ceiling insulation and we are now more than halfway done with the wall insulation as well.  The boys and the families came on Sunday and they managed to get the entire utility room under roof.  Now waiting on my plumber brother to get there to do the rough plumbing.  The composting toilet im totally cool with...the outdoor solar shower is a whole other story!  Very much looking forward to having the rain water system and hot water heater complete!  Larry hung some cabinets to make things a little more convenient for me to work in the kitchen.  The pups are settling in well.  And the internet service comes one week from today.  Some pics from the last couple of days...

Saturday....September 6, 2014....

About to crash into bed.  But first a whole lot of pics from the work we did today.  Put a porch light which seemed to somehow make things a little more official.  Put in a new window for some cross ventilation.  Really really glad we did as I can see up the hill to the barn from the cottage now.  James and Katie came and were such a huge help.  Larry and James completely framed out the bathroom.  So excited to be getting indoor plumbing before we actually move in.  I would have trekked up the hill to the barn but im so glad I dont have to now.  Well worn completely out and headed to bed until more work onced again tomorrow!
Be well,
Lisa
